விமர்சன ரீதியாக பாராட்டப்பட்ட ‘கூழாங்கல்’ படத்தின் தயாரிப்பிற்காக பெயர் பெற்ற Learn and Teach Productions-ன் சாய் தேவானந்த் ‘ஜமா’ படத்தைத் தயாரித்துள்ளார். முழுப் படமும் ஒரே ஷெட்யூலில் 35 நாட்களில் படமாக்கப்பட்டது. படத்தின் நம்பகத்தன்மையை உறுதி செய்வதற்காக, நிஜ வாழ்க்கை தெரு நாடகக் கலைஞர்கள் படப்பிடிப்பு தொடங்கும் முன் ஒத்திகைக்காக ஈடுபடுத்தப்பட்டனர். பிரபல தெருக்கூத்து கலைஞர் கலைமாமணி தாங்கல் சேகர் நடிகர்களுக்கு தெருக்கூத்து பயிற்சி அளித்தார். இசையமைப்பாளர் இசைஞானி இளையராஜா பாடல்களில் மிகைப்படுத்தலை தவிர்த்து, உண்மையான தெருக்கூத்து இசையைப் பயன்படுத்தியதால் படம் இயல்பாக வந்துள்ளது. ‘அவதாரம்’ படத்திற்குப் பிறகு இந்த வகையான இசையை அவர் மீண்டும் தேர்வு செய்துள்ளார்.

‘Koozhangal’ Producer’s Next Venture titled ‘JAMA’ An Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja Musical Filmmaker Pari Elavazhagan Directorial
Films that endorse the native and aesthetics of Art forms have garnered global recognition. Over the years, such movies have touched the hearts of audiences beyond the countries and languages. Significantly, Learn & Teach Productions, which created a beautiful masterpiece titled ‘Koozhangal’, is ready to enthrall the cinephiles with yet another realistic drama titled ‘Jama’, which revolves around the lifestyle, and challenges of ‘Theru Koothu’ (Street play) artists in Tamil Nadu. The film is directed by Pari Elavazhagan, who has played the lead role as well.
He explains that the film is centred around the traditional and aesthetic culture of Theru Koothu in Tamil Nadu. The title ‘Jama’ represents a group of street play artists, and the story focuses on their experiences in Thiruvannamalai. Specifically, it depicts male artists disguising as women for the sake of this art during the play, delving into the emotional and internal changes they undergo, and the challenges they face in society. The culture of Theru Koothu is predominantly observed in Thiruvannamalai, Kallakurichi, Vilippuram, and a few other places, but the film concentrates on the former. ‘
Jama’ is produced by Sai Devanand of Learn and Teach Productions, known for producing the critically acclaimed ‘Koozhangal’. The entire film was shot in a single 35-day schedule. To ensure authenticity, real-life street play artists were involved and given rehearsals before shooting began. Renowned artist Kalaimamani Thangal Sekar mentored the actors to deliver realistic performances. The film aims for naturalness, even at the insistence of music composer Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja, who discouraged exaggeration in the songs and used authentic Theru Koothu music. This marks his return to composing music in this genre after ‘Avatharam’. The team is excited to showcase his unparalleled music in this film.
Pari Elavazhagan is directing this film and is playing the lead role. The others in the star cast include Chetan, Ammu Abhirami, Sri Krishna Dayal, K.V.N. Manimegalai, Kaala Kumar, Vasanth Marimuthu, Siva Maran, and many others. Gopal Krishna is handling cinematography, and Partha M.A. is the editor and Srikanth Gopal is the art director for this film.
